Utah Senate green-lights new rules limiting media access

The Utah Senate has approved new rules limiting access for news media.

Senate Rules Resolution 1, sponsored by Sen. Mike McKell (R-Spanish Fork), passed 22 to 5 after senators debated the issue Monday afternoon. Per Senate rules, the resolution must pass one more time before it becomes official.

The new rules require journalists to get permission before entering the Senate floor or private hallways which, in the past, were open if the Senate wasn’t in session.
