The latest labor market report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates fewer jobs were added in November and expect the same scenario for the month of December.  However, forecasters expect the national unemployment rate to hold steady at 4.2%, which is relatively low by historical standards.

The trajectory of the job market over the next year will depend on the new policies of the president’s administration which could change the course based on what decisions will be made.

Year-over-year, the job market in the Palm Bay Metro has slowed since the post-pandemic boom but has stayed stable.

  • Nonfarm employment added 259,600 jobs in November, an increase of 1,500 from a year ago.
  • The education and health services industry accounted the bulk of the employment increase adding 1,500, followed by leisure and hospitality at 600 new jobs.
  • The combination of education and health services, trade, transportation and utilities, and professional and business services make up for nearly half or 49% of the total nonfarm employment in Palm Bay.
  • Unemployment in the Palm Bay Metro is currently at 3.7% lower than the national level at 4%.
