Report for America is now accepting applications from local news organizations interested in hosting a corps member beginning in July 2027. Applications are due Oct. 19.
Report for America, the flagship program of nonprofit journalism support organization Report Local, partners with newsrooms to add reporting capacity focused on under-covered communities and under-reported topics. Through the program, Report for America recruits talented journalists, contributes a portion of their salary for a two-year commitment with an option to renew for a third year, and provides training and support to both corps members and their host newsrooms.
Applications are open to newsrooms seeking to fill critical gaps in local coverage. Report for America will prioritize applicants that demonstrate a clear community need for the proposed beat, strong editing and mentorship, a commitment to creating an inclusive newsroom environment, and a willingness to build long-term financial sustainability through local fundraising and diversified revenue.
Host newsrooms are required to pay corps members at least a living wage for their area and raise local support toward the position. Report for America’s sustainability team works alongside participating newsrooms to help strengthen their fundraising capacity and build support for local journalism beyond the initial partnership.
Newsrooms based in Washington state will apply through the same process and will be considered for positions through the WSU Murrow Fellows/Report for Washington program.
Applications must be submitted by Oct. 19. Apply at ReportforAmerica.org.
