Layout International to launch next-generation web-based page layout system in Q4

Posted

Layout International is excited to announce the upcoming launch of a groundbreaking web-based Page Layout System for publishers, set to go live in Q4 of this year. This new module, seamlessly integrated with our flagship platform NewsPublish, marks a significant leap forward in editorial production, combining the power of automation with the flexibility of human creativity.

At the core of this innovation lies the Adobe InDesign Server, enabling a fully browser-based interface for page layout — no local installations required. Publishers will now be able to reduce their dependency on individual Adobe InDesign desktop licenses, resulting in substantial cost savings and simplified infrastructure.

With the new system, editors and designers can upload their InDesign snippets directly into NewsPublish, where pages can be built in two dynamic ways:

  • Fully automated layout using AI, which intelligently places articles, images and ads into the best-fitting templates.
  • Manual drag-and-drop functionality, allowing users to choose from a library of templates and interactively arrange content based on editorial decisions.

This hybrid approach empowers newsrooms to work faster and smarter. Among the many powerful features:

  • Predefined page templates to streamline the layout process.
  • Real-time multi-user collaboration, enabling teams to work on the same edition concurrently.
  • Advanced copy-fitting tools that automatically adjust article lengths to fit allocated spaces without manual editing.

On average, early tests show a time saving of more than 50% in the page layout process. For publishers managing high-volume or daily print editions, this can result in a dramatic boost in productivity.

Should editors or designers require more advanced control, they can export any page at any time back to Adobe InDesign, ensuring full compatibility and creative freedom for high-end designs or special issues.

While the industry trend has leaned toward full automation, we believe the future lies in a hybrid model. Our system allows publishers to harness the speed of automation while still retaining the human touch, producing high-quality, visually balanced pages that respect editorial values. This results in up to three times faster production with better overall quality and flexibility.

This enhancement is part of the continuous evolution of NewsPublish, the all-in-one editorial CMS already trusted by over 150 publishers worldwide. Whether for print, web or both, NewsPublish is designed to optimize editorial workflows, reduce operational costs and empower publishers to focus on what truly matters: quality journalism.
