After more than 30 years providing a weekly in-paper print feature for young learners, Kid Scoop now offers an online edition for home and school use. While hundreds of newspapers publish Kid Scoop in their print editions, online news publishing has grown dramatically along with publisher requests.
Kid Scoop creator Vicki Whiting explained the difference between the print edition and online Kid Scoop edition.
“The in-paper Kid Scoop is a weekly full-color page or half-page. The online Kid Scoop has the same content, but it’s formatted into individual black and white pages that can be easily printed out for kitchen table or classroom use. As always, Kid Scoop activities are deceptively fun — their real purpose is to help children acquire important skills in reading, writing and math, plus learn about geography, history, biography, civics and science.”
Several newspapers led the way in publishing the online version of Kid Scoop for several years. They’ve reported the ease of using online Kid Scoop plus positive responses from parents and teachers, so Whiting decided to share the online opportunity for all publishers.
“The print news hole is shrinking in these challenging times,” Whiting said. “Giving families and teachers Kid Scoop material online that they can download and print out helps newspaper publishers serve both audiences and keeps children learning after the school day as well.”
