NEW YORK — USA TODAY, part of USA TODAY Co., Inc. (NYSE: TDAY), announced Jennifer Hassan as its first royals reporter, leading coverage of the British royal family. In this role, Hassan will focus on building USA TODAY Entertainment's newest vertical through timely breaking news, enterprise reporting, engaging features, and compelling, audience-driven coverage. Hassan’s coverage will go beyond the headlines, with original reporting, features and analysis of the royal family including major events, public appearances, controversies and the cultural significance of the monarchy.
Based in London, England, Hassan joins USA TODAY from The Washington Post, where she spent a decade covering breaking news and major global events. She has established herself as a leading voice in royal coverage, reporting on the monarchy's ongoing evolution and defining events such as the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the coronation of King Charles III. Most recently, she served as a breaking news reporter, delivering fast-paced, high-impact coverage of global conflicts and natural disasters, as well as major cultural and political moments.
In addition to her reporting, Hassan brings deep experience in audience strategy and digital storytelling. She joined The Washington Post as its world news social media editor, where she was focused on growing global audiences and shaping how stories reached readers across platforms. Earlier in her career, she held roles at MailOnline and Viber, building expertise in SEO, community engagement and emerging platforms.
“Jennifer brings the speed to break news and the depth to put it in context,” said Wendy Naugle, executive editor of entertainment, USA TODAY Network. “We are thrilled to have her as we continue to expand our entertainment content. Her experience, perspective and ability to reach audiences wherever they get their news is a key piece of this coverage area for USA TODAY.”
“I’ve spent years covering the royal family, and joining USA TODAY feels like the perfect next chapter,” said Hassan. “I look forward to bringing readers closer to the stories shaping the monarchy today.”
Hassan earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing from Brunel University of London and is the recipient of multiple honors, including an Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in social media.
