The Inland Press Foundation has awarded two grants to America’s Newspapers to fund executive development and newspaper industry research.

The grants were approved at the foundation’s recently concluded fall board meeting.

The first grant of $7,500 funds a second year of the America’s Newspapers Executive Development Program. That initiative is directed at emerging leaders. The first class of the program launched earlier this year.

The second grant will help underwrite national newspaper research.

Both grants are in addition to the support Inland already provides America’s Newspapers through a five-year grant commitment.

Joyce McCullough, president of the Inland Foundation, said both initiatives are important to the industry. “The Inland Foundation is pleased to support these worthy programs,” she said, “and we believe they will benefit the entire industry. The executive development program had a great first year. And the research project will provide valuable insights into consumer attitudes about the newspaper industry.”

Dean Ridings, CEO of America’s Newspapers, thanked Inland for the support. “America’s Newspapers is proud to work with the Inland Press Foundation to produce high-quality programs for the industry,” Ridings said. He added, “We particularly appreciate the foundation’s willingness to fund two new programs that are sorely needed this year.” Ridings said the research study would be of value to all newspapers. “The newly approved grant to support the first national audience research study in more than a decade will help newspaper sales staff across the country by providing sorely needed research on the value of the newspaper audience,” Ridings said.
