This week, the Houston Chronicle launched “Change of State,” a YouTube series that follows statewide columnist Chris Tomlinson from the Houston suburbs to Brownsville, San Antonio, Fort Worth and beyond. In it, Tomlinson documents the undeniable demographic changes reshaping the Lone Star State’s politics, economy and culture.
The YouTube series follows the publication of six columns in which Tomlinson explores the hope, strife and anxiety these demographic changes are bringing.
“Experts have talked about how the ethnic makeup of Texas was going to change for decades. Well, that change is here,” Tomlinson said. “Texans will look a lot more like they did in 1820 than they did in 1920. And in 2040, the entire nation will look like Texas does today. So we should get comfortable with these changes and embrace them.”
