Mississippi Today delivers Pulitzer-winning accountability and investigative journalism with a boost from philanthropy

Despite being based in the nation’s poorest state, the nonprofit Mississippi Today has filled reporting gaps left by other gutted newsrooms — and won a Pulitzer Prize — by focusing on watchdog journalism while gaining national grant funding from the American Journalism Project, the Knight Foundation and others.

Judy Woodruff of the “PBS NewsHour,” featured Mississippi Today and spoke with CEO Mary Margaret White in a report about news outlets’ sustainability as part of her “America at a Crossroads” series.
