Texas paper to publish three days a week

Beginning June 16, the Fort Bend (Texas) Herald will begin a three-day-a-week printing schedule and a new focus on digital news coverage and features, said Clyde C. King Jr., publisher of the Herald and chairman of Hartman Newspapers, its parent company.

Print editions will be distributed to subscribers in the mail and to single-copy readers at newsracks and retail locations on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.  The paper will continue to publish daily through its digital edition, fbherald.com.

The change is in response to the COVID-19 crisis.  King noted that about 70% of the paper's revenue comes from advertising, which experienced serious cutbacks following the state's shelter-in-place order.  “Unfortunately, this is not business as usual for so many of our customers — and by direct relationship, not for us either,” King said.
