VENICE — David Dunn-Rankin, chairman of D-R Media and Investments LLC, which owns the Highlands News-Sun, is the newest inductee into the Florida Newspaper Hall of Fame.

The ceremony took place June 5 at the annual Florida Media Conference in Orlando.

Downplaying the honor, in an interview he said he was chosen because “I’m old and there’s nobody left to pick.”

He joins his father, Derek Dunn-Rankin, who founded Sun Coast Media Group in 1976; Bob Vedder, retired publisher of the Venice Gondolier, the company’s flagship paper when it started; and former board members Corbin Wyant and S.L. Frisbie, publishers in their own right, as Hall of Fame members with SCMG affiliations.
