CLAXTON, Ga. — CherryRoad Media has acquired The Claxton Enterprise from owner Mitchell “Mickey” Peace. The transaction closed Feb. 26, allowing the 112-year-old paper to continue to serve its communities.

Mickey Peace, former owner of The Claxton Enterprise, said, “As we transition to the next phase of our lives, I want to thank all who have supported The Claxton Enterprise by reading and advertising with the newspaper. Pam and I hope that the support shown to us over the past many years will also be extended to the new owner.”

“More than anything else, we extend our deepest love and appreciation to Paula McNeely, who has played the most important role in this newspaper’s success over the years.” Peace added: “As The Enterprise goes forward under new ownership, we are proud that she will continue to be a part of the newspaper’s future.”

“We wish the new owner much success in the years ahead and urge Evans County residents and businesses to welcome CherryRoad Media to Claxton.”

Founded in 1912, The Claxton Enterprise has served Claxton, surrounding Evans County communities for well over a century, delivering trusted local news, sports coverage, and community reporting.

CherryRoad Media will continue that legacy. The company entered the newspaper industry in late 2020 with the acquisition of the weekly Cook County (Minnesota) News-Herald and has since expanded its footprint to newspapers in 19 states. In addition to ownership, CherryRoad Media now also provides management services to other newspaper publishers.

Jeremy Gulban, CEO of CherryRoad Media, said, “We are happy we have been able to work with Mickey and Pam to keep this vital local institution alive and serving these communities.  Too many small towns across our country are losing their local media.  Claxton almost joined that growing list, something we did not want to see happen.

“Community newspapers are facing unprecedented challenges, but they remain vital to local democracy and civic life. Our approach is patient, responsible ownership — supporting strong local reporting while building sustainable operations that allow these papers to endure.”

CherryRoad Media is a wholly owned subsidiary of CherryRoad Technologies, a Parsippany, New Jersey–based technology company founded in 1983. CherryRoad Technologies provides complex technology solutions and system integration services to large enterprise customers, with a particular focus on state and local government. Gulban said the company’s expansion into local news was driven by a belief that community journalism needs supportive, technology-enabled solutions — not extractive or disruptive ones — to survive and thrive.
