Family Owners 2026 is just 47 days away. If you plan to join fellow family owners, successors and senior leaders in Washington, D.C., now is the time to register.

The Sept. 27–28 conference at the Washington Marriott Georgetown is built around the decisions facing family-owned newspaper companies today.

Who leads next? How should ownership and governance evolve? What is the company worth? Where does the operation need to change?

The program begins with succession planning, including how to prepare future leaders, manage family expectations and evaluate whether the right path is continued family ownership, outside leadership, restructuring or a sale.

Additional sessions will address revenue and operational trends, current valuations and M&A activity, leadership burnout and the role philanthropic funding can play in supporting both the newspaper and its community.

The conference format also creates time for candid peer discussion. Incumbents and successors will participate in separate sessions focused on the issues specific to their roles. Operators and senior leaders will have a parallel discussion centered on operational innovation and business performance.

Sunday concludes with the Family Owners Dinner at Chef Geoff’s, providing more time to compare strategies and discuss the decisions family-owned companies are making now.

Family Owners opens D.C. 2026, followed by the Senior Leadership Conference and the News/Media Alliance Fly-In. Members attending multiple programs can cover the week with one trip to Washington. Separate registration is required for each meeting.

Attendance at Family Owners is limited to qualifying members of America’s Newspapers and the News/Media Alliance.
