Senate Judiciary Committee in Florida approves legislation that would harm public notice in the state

March 23, 2021 - By a vote of 8-3, the Florida Senate’s Judiciary Committee voted March 22 to send legislation to the Senate floor that — if approved — would authorize legal notifications in Florida, in certain cases, to be published on a website established by the Supreme Court, in lieu of newspaper publication. SB 402 also specifies that website publication constitutes proof of publication, unless otherwise determined by a court.  more

Richard Clark has been named regional advertising director for the Adams Publishing Group’s Tennessee/North Carolina region. In his new role, Clark will be responsible for assisting all 20 newspapers in the region with revenue growth from major/national accounts, local retail, classifieds and events. Clark will be based out of Greeneville, Tennessee, where he is also the local ad director for The Greeneville Sun and the Rogersville Review. more

Publisher letting people buy stock to fund digital switch!

After the success of a similar plan in Pine Bluff, the publisher of The Sentinel-Record in Hot Springs, Arkansas, said he is offering preferred stock for sale to the people of Hot Springs to fund the transition to a digital newspaper and maintain seven days a week of "quality journalism at the community level." more

March 15, 2021 - The citizens of Wyoming were the beneficiaries one week ago when the Wyoming Senate rejected a bill that would have limited government transparency. By a 20-9 vote, Senate File 17, a bill brought by Sen. Tara Nethercott (R-Cheyenne), would have allowed cities, towns, counties and school districts to only place public notice information on their own websites. more
