Southern Newspapers Inc., the Houston-based media company that owns The Daily News and 11 other papers in Texas and Oklahoma, this week announced a major change among corporate officers. Effective with the new year, Dolph Tillotson, company president since 2014, will become chairman of the board. Daily News Publisher Leonard Woolsey will become president of the company.

Harry M. Rosenfeld, who barely escaped the Holocaust as a child in Nazi Germany and who became a key Washington Post editor during its Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of the Watergate break-in and resulting scandal, died July 16 at his home in Slingerlands, New York. He was 91.

Kathleen McGrory's stories have exposed previously unreported spikes in the number of child gun deaths, traced the origins of a fatal power-plant accident and exposed tragic mistakes at the Heart Institute at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. That last project, “Heartbroken,” was reported with Neil Bedi. It was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and was awarded the George Polk Award for local reporting.
