Tolley named president of three S.C. newspapers as Mahone takes over Georgia markets

The McClatchy Company announced leadership changes at its South Carolina properties on Monday.

Rodney Mahone, president and publisher of The State (Columbia) and The Charlotte (North Carolina) Observer, will give up those duties after being named president of the company’s Georgia properties in Macon and Columbus. He also will have extensive advertising-related responsibilities throughout the 30-market company.

The company also announced the promotion of The State’s executive editor, Brian Tolley, to the role of president and editor of The State, The Sun News of Myrtle Beach and The Island Packet/Beaufort Gazette.

Leadership of the company’s other South Carolina newspaper, The (Rock Hill) Herald, will be filled by newly appointed president Sherry Chisenhall, who will also oversee the operations of The Charlotte Observer.
