Mark Medici, who was president of the Houston Chronicle and chief marketing officer for Hearst Newspapers, has been named interim publisher of the San Antonio (Texas) Express-News. He succeeds Michael Sacks, who resigned for personal reasons.

Medici said a main focus will be growing the newspaper’s audience.

“On the advertising side, we will focus on local relationships we have with businesses and bringing forward solutions for those businesses,” he said. “First and foremost, we do that by producing great content that attracts a large audience.”

Medici said that although he is interim publisher, he intended to act “as though it’s permanent.”
