Walter Hussman was in Harrison, Arkansas, yesterday to talk with area print subscribers about reading a digital replica of the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on an iPad that the paper is giving to subscribers.

Harrison has been a test market for digital conversion of the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, which is circulated in 12 counties.

Hussman said the paper has seen an 80% conversion rate in Harrison, which is better than the 78% statewide average. The conversion rate in Little Rock has been more than 90%.

Hussman, publisher of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and chairman of WEHCO Media, Inc., has been working for two years to convert subscribers in the 63 counties outside Northwest Arkansas to the digital edition, plus Sunday print edition.
